Principle Mechanical Engineer (Finance)

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will work on defense programs, providing unique and technically advanced engineering development products to the US Government. Projects include large defense vehicle integration and transition from development to production. You will be the interface to the program for mechanical engineering, providing mechanical engineering expertise during the design transition phase.

Responsibilities and Tasks (listed in bullet format) in order of priority to be successful

  • Analyze proposed changed to technical documentation. Determine effects on the design and product integration.
  • Manage battalion configurations in product lifecycle management tool (PLM) and ERP system in collaboration with our Israeli affiliates.
  • Perform weakly BOM comparisons in collaboration with our Israeli affiliates.
  • Champion of a closed loop process between configuration management, program management, and our Israeli affiliates. Owner of schedule and cost implications.
  • Active participant in Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities. Ownership of recommendations and changes as well as path forward for execution of change.
  • Interface with supplier Configuration Management (CM) and Manufacturing engineering (MFE) personnel to analyze and resolve CM and MFE related issues.
  • Requires minimal supervision for mechanical engineering tasks and execution.
  • Leads and counsels junior staff and directs routine and non-routine program engineering activities.
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Analyzes, develops, and implements advanced engineering concepts, standards, techniques, and solutions
  • Acts on behalf of the Mechanical Engineering Department with delegated authority.
  • Ownership and accountability for the mechanical engineering team's technical work.
  • Provide clear direction and task prioritization that align with program commitments and schedule.
  • Review technical designs, mechanical drawings, and analyses conducted by the team.
  • Participate in program IPT meetings and status mechanical engineering tasks.
  • Identify risks and opportunities to the program related to the hardware architecture.
  • Participate in program proposals and BOE's.

Education, Experience & License or Certification

Education, Experience & License or Certification

  • Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience working large defense vehicle integration and product transition to production.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited University.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Previous experience as a technical lead on a program is a plus.
  • Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools, SolidWorks preferred. CREO, and/or NX are a plus.
  • Proficient in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) methods and conventions in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009/2018.
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience. Drawing release workflow. Experience with both formal and engineering release of drawings and documentation. Experience supporting a formal CCB.
  • Finite Element Modeling experience, both static/transient structural analysis, and steady state/transient thermal analysis. ANSYS Workbench and/or NX NASTRAN preferred.
  • Proficient with using JIRA.
  • Ability to generate required documentation including detailed drawings, design reports, assembly procedures, bills-of-material, and test procedures.
  • Knowledge of advanced materials: alloys, composites, ceramics, thermoplastics, epoxies
  • Ability to work professionally in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing methods.
  • Fundamental modeling and analytical understanding of static and dynamic mechanical properties (e.g. stress, torque, natural frequency, damping, thermal expansion, etc.)
  • Requires EMD qualification experience and support of root cause/failure analysis.
  • Experience with preparing and presenting at customer design reviews is required.

  • Experience with large CAD assemblies and strategic modeling assembly structuring for functionality.
  • Detail oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to follow department procedures, work instructions, and best practices.
  • Able to work with a sense of urgency and step out of the "mechanical engineering swim lane" to help out other disciplines when needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Thorough understanding of CM and MFE disciplines and methodologies.
  • Able to read and understand drawings, Technical Procedures and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), able to create Bills of Materials.
