Lab Assistant - Clinical (Finance)



Perform tasks of lab report retrieval, report distribution, report filing and other lab process flows and clerical functions. Ensure accurate and timely data entry, scanning, and faxing. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to all patients, doctors and other medical staff. Ensure proper patient identification and labeling of specimens. Follow all clinic and laboratory policies and procedures. Perform CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing. Must be able to troubleshoot, prioritize specimens (STAT, ASAP, Routine, Pre-op, etc.), multitask, and be flexible in order to accommodate the needs of the laboratory.

Schedule: Tues - Friday 1:30pm to 10pm, Saturday 10:30am - 7pm

Hiring Range: $20.10/hour- $26.00/hour, actual rate dependent on experience

Differentials: $2.56/hour Saturday, $3.00/hour evening differential for hours worked from 5:30pm to 11pm

Responsibilities:

CLIA Waived Lab Testing and Quality Control-

  • Perform CLIA waived lab tests accurately, reporting within specified turnaround times.
  • Verify sample identification.
  • Record test results accurately and legibly.
  • Notify, with appropriate documentation, Provider and staff within established, acceptable times for "panic" values.
  • Refer specimens of "panic" value to Clinical Lab or Reference Lab for confirmation of panic value result.
  • Access laboratory results for clinical staff documents accordingly.
  • Perform and document quality control as per established laboratory protocol.
  • Respond appropriately to "out of control" situation, documenting as required.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory instruments as specified.
  • Clean and disinfect work area and appropriately disposes of bio-hazardous material as needed and at least on a daily basis.

Lab Result Retrieval and other Clerical-
  • Enter accurately into information systems the specimens for couriers, verifying that specimens are labeled legibly and accurately, and that Reference Lab requisitions are correctly completed. Generate Face sheets to attach to Reference Lab requisition for patient billing information.
  • Maintain accurate lab records observing CLIA and Medicare retention guidelines.
  • Compile and run weekly Lab reports.
  • Weekly inventory and order supplies.
  • Unpack the Laboratory supply deliveries, reconciling items to the packing lists. Date the reagents and kits with the received date, storing and rotating stock appropriately.
  • Take messages that are accurate, legible, and complete with patient name, date of birth or medical record number, and Clinician.
  • Monitor Lab voicemail messages, responding to messages as appropriate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role and license/certification.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and shades.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer those with education in lab sciences or phlebotomy.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working in a healthcare clinical laboratory preferred.
  • Healthcare experience and/or education required.

Pay Range:
$19.70 - $27.58

PTO and Personal Time accruals are pro-rated by FTE/hours worked. Non-benefits eligible employees will accrue Personal Time based on hours worked and State worked.
