Associate Professor-Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine (Finance)



The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine is seeking an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine to serve as Interim Associate Program Director and Core Faculty for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. It is a dynamic, dual-role position combining leadership in medical education and primary care sports medicine. As Associate Program Director, the individual will oversee the Emergency Medicine residency program, providing mentorship, curriculum development, and resident assessment while ensuring alignment with ACGME accreditation standards. This role also involves supporting the Program Director in advancing the academic mission of USF and fostering an environment of excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching. This position will also lead the development of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.MINIMUM:
Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM:

Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required. To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties. The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine. Must have a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine (CAQSM) or equivocal. Must have ACLS and ATLS certifications.

  • CLINICAL-Clinical responsibilities will include patient care in the emergency department at Tampa General Hospital and or satellite locations. Provide outpatient sports medicine services in an ambulatory setting at the USF Morsani campus. Clinical days and times will vary and future locations may be added. Additionally provide urgent care and sports medicine services within the USF Student Health and Wellness Center. Other duties include providing voluntary or paid services sports medicine services to organizations that have an academic affiliation agreement with the University. This position will also lead the development of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.
  • TEACHING-Participates actively in the teaching and/or research programs of the department/division, attending Emergency Medicine fellows, residents, and medical students, providing guidance and mentorship. Will expand clinical services within the college, and in the community. Will keep abreast of new developments and exhibit a scholarly approach to learning. Participates in didactic lectures, presentations, and discussions at Grand Rounds, seminars, workshops, journal clubs, research meetings, laboratory and clinical training. Serve as ACGME Core Faculty and Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Ensure compliance with ACGME Resident Survey 80-hour work week. Ensure full completion of the ACGME Resident Survey Response. Collaborate with the Chairman on the ACGME Faculty Survey Responses and compliance with GMEC Attendance for Required Members. Lead the development of a USF Emergency Medicine Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program.
  • OTHER-Other duties include providing voluntary or paid sports medicine services to organizations that have an academic affiliation agreement with the University.
  • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
  • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
  • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department.
