As a R&D Manager, you will lead a team to design and develop life-saving medical device products. Key responsibilities include product development, managing a technical team of engineers, interfacing with external partners, and driving product development strategies for successful commercialization. You will actively seek out Voice of the Customer (VOC) input and translate that into product requirements and design specifications, then perform clinical and preclinical assessments. You will work under the product development Sr Manager and lead a product development team to design, develop, and commercialize next-generation Neurovascular technologies.

Neurovascular
The Neurovascular team develops life-saving therapies and healthcare solutions for Acute Ischemic Stroke and Hemorrhagic Stroke.

  • Develop a high-performing R&D engineering team focusing on development of next generation technologies for Neurovascular Access and AIS products.
  • Interface with external partners and customers to collect and understand needs.
  • Drive development activities through both internal and external capabilities
  • Partner with third party manufacturers as needed to accomplish organizational objectives
  • Design and develop next generation technologies for Neurovascular therapies
  • Align with organizational strategy and deliver on project goals
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and team performance
  • Coach, mentor, and develop talent for high performance
  • Collaborate cross functionally and cross-business to investigate new robust and innovative technologies in alignment with R&T and R&D Roadmaps
  • Provide technical expertise for product development programs
  • Guide and mentor product development teams to design robust next generation technologies and solve complex technical problems
  • Influence strategy and direction of the Neurovascular and R&D organizations
  • Develop external partnerships with KOLs (key opinion leaders) in the Neurovascular space
  • Adhere to safety policy procedures.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 1+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with 1+ years of managerial experience

Experience Needed:

  • Thorough understanding of medical device industry and regulatory requirements for class II and Class III devices. Working knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding of clinical and regulatory pathways, IP and internal processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in keeping current with technology developments in specialized area.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects with a strong problem solving ability.
  • In depth knowledge and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in related field of expertise to develop innovative approaches to work
  • Working experience of Product life cycle process from concept to commercialization.
  • Good clinical knowledge for uses of products.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work cooperatively with others as a lead member of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience sharing information, status, needs, and issues with others in order to inform, gain input, and support decision making.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team of engineers and a budget

Nice to Have

  • Experience with vascular product development
  • Experience in neurovascular product development
  • Expertise in the development of catheter, guidewire, and other access medical devices
  • Expertise in materials science
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$140,800.00 - $211,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
