Application Manager (Project Management)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Applications Manager role is to supervise and maintain Relay Resources portfolio of software applications through best practices, the appropriate staffing and management of an Applications team, and establishing appropriate vendor relationships. The Applications Manager is also responsible for planning and coordinating the processes required for the provision of user applications and systems necessary for business operations. They will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to guide and assist stakeholders and users on issues related to the acquisition, integration, deployment, and change management of mission-critical business application systems creating efficiencies and eliminating manual processes.

CORE FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

25% Strategy & Planning:

Work with Director of Information Technology and stakeholders to implement and maintain Relay Resources application portfolio including enterprise and department specific applications. Focus on customer journey and user experience and seek solutions that optimize the experience across departments. Ensure that applications meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill stakeholder requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues. Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems. Work with business leaders to identify key metrics for driving business performance and implement systems, processes, tools, and integrations necessary to reliably provide those metrics. Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of application-usage best practices. Develop the Enterprise and Department Business Application portfolio architecture with all integrations.

30% Acquisition & Deployment:

Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of social enterprises and shared services. Evaluate, install, configure, and deploy new applications, systems software, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise. Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts in the testing of new software programs and applications. Analyze documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality. Ensure that any new software integration into Relay Resources systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications. Facilitate the implementation, change management, and rollout of application enhancements and upgrades. Be a change management leader. Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings. Evaluate proposals to identify potential problem areas and make the appropriate recommendations. Working with the IT Director and CFO to negotiate contracts with software and service providers. Liaise with companys software suppliers for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.

40% Operational Management:

Manage and provide direction for the application team in support of business operations. Liaise with Infrastructure Team to assist with issues related to application use, availability, and performance. Compile and maintain inventory of company software and systems assets and their corresponding contracts/agreements. Develop and communicate training and documentation for end users, hold training events as necessary, and other user-related activities. Solicit, compile, and distribute end-user feedback for updated and new systems or applications. Work with departments to develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for Application spending and initiatives. Produce regular metrics on projects and applications. Contribute to the development, implementation, and adherence to IT policies and procedures, such as Data Governance, project management and change management policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors degree in information systems, computer science, or equivalent field. 8+ years direct experience managing applications and/or systems management. Proven experience in overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions. Strong knowledge of business analysis processes and tools. Direct hands-on experience selecting, configuring, and implementing SaaS cloud applications including migrating from on-premises to SaaS. Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies. Working knowledge of business intelligence systems and data structures, principles, and practices. Working knowledge of cloud application, browser, network, and operating system technologies. Demonstrated project management skills and project management software skills, including planning, organizing, and managing resources. Excellent understanding of the organizations goals and objectives. Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures. Experience with financial systems including ERP systems. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
