Director, Global Procurement - Sustaining Products (Finance)

Job Description
This position is under the direct supervision of Senior Director, Global Supply Chain and has responsibility for procurement operations to scale the manufacture and servicing of Intuitive's commercialized systems (capital equipment) products. Specific areas of responsibility include:
  • Oversight and development of direct materials purchasing staff and processes to help factory operations within North America;
  • Component material planning, management of supplier delivery performance;
  • Compliance to financial goals and regulatory controls;
  • Execution of material supply plans to help manufacturing schedules; and
  • Ensuring an efficient raw material inventories and supplier delivery performance.

Position will also help operational initiatives and plans as related to purchasing direct materials across Intuitive's global operations.

Essential Job Duties

People and team

  • Select and develop staff to meet current and future business requirements
  • Maintains employee training curriculums, training compliance, and employee specific talent plans
  • Creates and maintains employee succession and staffing plans for department workload distribution
  • Develops, communicates and drives execution of goals to meet operational priorities and plans as related to purchasing operations
  • Emulate and drive Intuitive's Culture Strategy by fostering our mission, founding values, individual and leadership expectations.

Functional
  • Develops and maintains department operating procedures and business systems to maintain compliance and future scalability to meet long term Company needs.
  • Presents and manages performance to core metrics associated with Purchasing Operations: examples include supplier on-time delivery, raw material inventory turnover, purchase order and MRP exception message processing, and engineering change order (ECO) execution
  • Engages with Master Scheduling and Manufacturing functions to build plan adherence, implementing material plan adjustments on quarterly basis and scenario planning where required.
  • Ensures effectiveness of ECO implementations as related to supply continuity and inventory risk concerns.
  • Drives inventory performance for company investment with service level requirements.
  • May manage resolution of critical supply constraint issues to ensure that business interruption risks are minimized. Communicates status of top risk issues to manufacturing leadership and enables team's ability to communicate demand/supply scenarios and contingency planning. Identifies and recommends where Company investment is required to mitigate business risk.
  • Manages annual standard cost setting and ensures purchasing practices enable optimal purchase price
  • Participate and/or manage in the continuous improvement of current systems and processes to meet scale: systems and process development projects; partnering with other functions to deliver transformational changes
  • Ensures accuracy and efficiency of purchasing processes and supplier partnership tools to scale Intuitive's business.
  • Engages with Strategic Sourcing and commodity management teams to evaluate performance of existing suppliers and operational risks as well as provide input to supplier specific or commodity specific sourcing strategies. Includes alignment with Strategic Sourcing and new products teams to set roadmap for current and future suppliers to the business.
  • Owns completion of inventory, performance and supply agreements for locally managed suppliers as defined by Strategic Sourcing.

Compliance
  • Ensures supply chain processes and functions to comply with designated financial and regulatory control requirements (includes Frank-Dodd Act (conflict minerals), small business administration (SBA), Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Food and Drug Administration and California Food and Drug Board)
  • Represents supply chain function and compliance efforts associated with third party inspections or internal audits
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience with global manufacturing and servicing of complex capital equipment products.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office products and ERP systems.
  • Proven abilities to effectively engage with internal colleagues (in a matrixed environment) as well as external collaborators to achieve intended goals and priorities. Key abilities include: conflict resolution, consensus building and gaining commitment of collaborators to achieve results.
  • Working knowledge of material pull systems and other lean based material handling rules.
  • Detailed knowledge of material planning, demand scheduling and supply planning.
  • Sets model for precision and thoroughness in all forms of communications.
  • Proven ability to manage a high performance team to consistently achieve stretch goals and targets. Capability to recognize potential team issues, proposed solutions and gain commitment of team and other peer managers in problem solving.
  • Ability to direct and develop employees to have a commitment to high standards of quality and performance. Successful track record with retaining key, high potential staff and recruiting new talent to scale with business demands.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully
  • Ability to make effective presentations to peers and suppliers
  • Proven experience and track record regarding supplier and inventory management across multiple manufacturing platforms, process improvement of complex logistics, negotiations and contract development.
  • Proven data processing capabilities.
  • Project management skills, including a thorough knowledge of how to interpret business needs and translating them into operational requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage, influence and work well at all levels of an organization and in a cross functional/matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional relationship building, customer focus and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of internal customers and suppliers.

Required Education and Training
  • BS degree or equivalent and 10+ years of experience in purchasing direct materials with varied mix, volume and technical complexities.
  • 5+ years operations management experience with medium to large size medical device manufacturing organization.

Working Conditions
  • ~20% travel to both domestic and international operating sites and suppliers

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Masters level degree in business management, finance or engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience with core business systems including SAP, Agile, Ivalua, and Assent.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) and experience with maquiladora operating structure.
  • Knowledge of key trade compliance (tariffs, border controls for goods, etc.) and Regulated Materials (RoHS, Conflict Minerals, etc.) preferred.
  • Certifications: CPSM, CPIM, and/or PMP desired
