Senior Buyer/Project Buyer (Finance)



The Senior Buyer will procure direct and indirect materials and manage service contracts to support all departments of Amsted Rail's Greenville facility. In addition to support other site potential. Plan, schedule, and maintain raw material and procured sub-components to support S&OP forecast and production requirements. Manage inventory levels as required, to support changing business conditions. Obtain annual cost saving, inventory, and working capital goals by managing supplier chain for product cost, payment terms, inventory stocking plans, and timely fulfillment of orders to meet sales orders. Ability to find and develop new suppliers to meet potential needs. Negotiate pricing and delivery performance with supply base.

Responsibilities:

  • Enter and maintain direct and indirect purchase orders in the corporate business system (SAP). Review indirect requisitions for compliance with spending limits and budgets.
  • Provide supply chain inputs and data for monthly S&OP meeting. Communicate production component shortages and plan in daily production meeting. Develop macro and micro material requirement plans to meet SOP forecasts.
  • Obtain quotes, evaluate bids and negotiate price and delivery for new and existing requirements.
  • Work closely with Operation resources (Scheduling, Supervision, Shipping and Quality) to maximize raw material velocity while minimizing production disruptions due to shortages.
  • Develop and implement consistent methods of inputting and maintaining purchasing data in the business system. Manage timely payment of invoices.
  • Develop supplier programs to meet annual direct and indirect cost saving and inventory reduction targets. Support Corporate Working Capital reduction efforts.
  • Identify and develop key strategic suppliers to improve supply chain performance.
  • Train affected employees on pertinent procedures and work instructions for procurement system.
  • Maintain accurate counts of vendor consignment inventory on our properties.
  • Establish direct material costs standard costs for all materials.
  • Find and initiate cost savings opportunities. Cost savings to meet annual budgeted values
  • Perform to the following Amsted Rail expectations:

    • Environment: Demonstrates excellence in environmentally-appropriate workplace maintenance habits, including 5S. Recognizes environmental risks in packaging and purchasing behaviors and collaborates with suppliers to ensure environmental stewardship within the facility.
Experience:
  • Bachelor degree in a technical or business discipline.
  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience in a similar position or discipline. Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment. Leadership experience.
  • Preference given for CPM or APICS's CPIM certification.
  • PC Skills, specific proficiency in MS Office,
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, with preference give to experience with SAP.
  • Experience in a LEAN manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical skills. Must be able to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Knowledge of the metals market and alloys is required. Casting/Forging experience needed
  • Willing to travel - up to 20%.
