Pay Range: $24.35 - $38.96 (Based on education and experience)

Position Summary:
The Medical Coding and EMR Specialist will provide medical billing coding support to our lead coder and requires working directly with our Electronic Medical Record platform (EMR). They will be required to review all codes assigned for accuracy and following National Correct Coding Initiate (NCCI) guidelines. The Medical Coding and EMR Specialist will ensure proper processing of all coding reviewed in accordance with CMS compliance, Federal and State regulations, and Colorado Retina Associates policies.

This position is also responsible for providing ongoing support for the Electronic Medical Record (EMR/PM) platform including associated third party applications. This role will work collaboratively with all departments that utilize MDI software to optimize the use of Nextech EMR.

Job Duties:

Educates staff on clinical documentation required for regulatory and coding compliance and provides ongoing feedback to staff for continuous improvement.
Contacts EMR support for resolution for high level problems.
Communicates changes or updates to providers, managers, administrative and clinical support.
Supports all interface functionalities.
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of the EMR software and associated third party applications.
Assist with and provide support for internal chart audit program.
Monitor guidelines and requirements for medical charting and compliance.
Review provider documentation within EMR and assign diagnosis & procedure codes.
Correct coding for denied claims.
Collaborate with other teams as needed to resolve any coding discrepancies.


Job Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Working knowledge of medical terminology
Three years' recent experience in Medical A/R follow-up required
EMR/PM experience is preferred.
Medical/surgical coding & billing experience using ICD-10 codes required, 2 years' preferred
1-2 years' experience in a medical office, phthalmic preferred.


Certificates & Licenses:

Medical billing and coding certification preferred or able to obtain within one year of hire.
