JOB SUMMARY:
Performs all the essential functions of preconstruction cost estimating at all stages of design. Knowledgeable in the fundamentals, principal philosophies, and techniques used in producing construction cost estimates with extensive knowledge of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler Systems, Electrical, Communications, Life Safety, and other low-voltage systems for complex commercial construction projects.
The position requires reading, reviewing, and interpreting narratives, plans, and specifications, as well as conducting material quantity surveys to ensure alignment between pricing and scope of work. In addition to training and continued development as specified by the level and past experience of the MEP Estimator, tasks will include forecasting labor and equipment hour generation, presentation and communication skills, travel, and internal/external certification development.
The level and skills of the MEP Estimator will incorporate additional functions related to function/technical skills, such as client interaction, value engineering, constructability reviews, and input on task durations and scheduling concepts. Assists the Chief Estimator of Preconstruction to represent the firm in project meetings and, at times, present and explain MEP pricing and costs, providing input on constructability, logistics, sequencing, and design considerations. Will work with other estimators and company employees to ensure department goals are met.
The MEP Estimator will have acquired the technical skills necessary to produce cost estimates on documents ranging from concept to bid. Relies on previous experience and project data to create well-organized and reasonably accurate cost estimates, sometimes with limited or no specific design information at a very conceptual level. Capable of performing project-specific detailed quantity surveys using construction bid documents throughout project design phases. Will contribute to the development and review of design alternatives, cost options, and value engineering, and is capable of documenting and analyzing results for use in future projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
7 to 10 years experience in civil focused pre-construction and construction cost estimating, construction management, project controls, or related field.Minimum 7 yrs. commercial/construction cost estimating experience.Must have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision-making abilities.Knowledge of construction market area of operation including pricing conventions and trends.Ability to prepare budget/conceptual cost estimates from limited information.Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and other design documents.Ability to perform accurate quantity take-offs.Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.Solid organization, planning, collaboration, and leadership skills.Effectively coordinate and work independently with the client and stakeholders to accurately identify and capture project requirements.Demonstrated proficiency with internet and Microsoft Office Suite.AEP, CPE, CCP, or CEP certification or ability to achieve within 12 months.
EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree or experience equivalent to Bachelor's Degree
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Current, valid Texas Drivers license and a satisfactory driving record
