Lead Boiler Operator (Manufacturing)



Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

Must meet all requirements of Boiler Operator Trainee, Boiler Operator I, and Boiler Operator II, plus the following:

 

  1. Repairs or rebuilds condensate, feedwater, scrubber, hydraulic, and other boiler related pumps
  2. Performs layout, fit up and welding (Stick and Mig) of fixtures, components, and structures
  3. Ability to weld in all positions (flat, vertical, horizontal, overhead). Uses stick welder and oxygen/acetylene cutting rig safely
  4. Fabricates fixtures, fuel feed components, tools, tubes and other boiler or auxiliary components
  5. Operates Bobcat, Front End Loader, Man lift, Portable Welding units, dump truck(Standard Shift) and Crane.
  6. Inspects and repairs boiler fittings such as, safety valves, regulators, automatic control mechanisms water columns, and auxiliary machines such as pumps, draft fans, stokers, and feeders
  7. Inspects, identifies and assists with the replacement of sheaves, belts, sprockets, chains, tensions, bearings and clutches.
  8. Performs Hydrostatic Test on boiler, boiler related systems, and auxiliary systems
  9. Maintains and assures that all environmental equipment is operating within compliance range or makes the necessary adjustments to ensure Boise Cascade has no excursions of its operating permits for the Boiler operation.
  10. Installs and runs piping for control components, such as pressure controllers, level controllers and transmitters.
  11. Troubleshoots and assists with the installation and repairs of the fuel handling components such as feeders, stokers and retorts.
  12. Ability to generate requisitions for the procurement of repair parts and materials
  13. Consistently exhibits positive attitude, is supportive of Boise Cascade, sets a good example for other employees, and is a team player committed to making Boise Cascade successful
  14. Performs or directs housekeeping duties as necessary to assure a clean orderly and sanitary workplace for the Boilers and Control Room.
  15. Follows Company policies, procedures and safety rules and is responsible for the Shift Boiler helper duties.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

 

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum five years of professional boiler/steam systems experience; or three years professional boiler/steam systems experience and satisfactory completion of an accredited comprehensive technical school boiler program, or military training and assignments in boilers and related work
  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, schematics and procedure manuals
  3. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  4. Ability to effectively communicate preventative maintenance and performed maintenance to supervisors
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  6. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
  7. Ability to read and interpret instrumentation to make inferences regarding parts wear and repair
  8. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  9. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
